Our vacation rental apartments and rooms for rent, occupy a 16th century villa in the Euganei Hills natural park in Italy's Veneto region. With mountain bikes and scenic surroundings, this is a perfect vacation, within easy reach of Venice and the rest of Northern Italy.
Here among vineyards and olive groves, we produce organic wines and extra virgin olive oil. The villa is in Baone, a little town on the southern slopes of the Euganei Hills - whose name derives from celebrations in honour of Bacchus held in the pre-Roman era. The origins of Baone, 3km away from the very ancient town of Este, are documented by archaeological finds which show the area has been inhabited since the 8th century BC.
Ca' Orologio has now been restored to its ancient splendour. It now comprises a complex consisting of the villa, a large rural porticoed annexe (Barchessa) and a cultivated courtyard (brolo) enclosed by a boundary wall. The careful restoration was completed in 2003. Traditional practices, materials and natural colours were used, with the aim of creating an authentic, cosy and charming atmosphere. All the ceilings have been restored with fired tiles and wooden beams, all the floors relaid with larch wood and the walls painted with lime-based natural colours. The furnishings include antiques, and every room has its own distinctive mark.
The owners of the villa have two passions - producing the perfect red wine and producing the perfect vacation for their guests. The usual stay is from Saturday to Saturday but shorter stays can be arranged.
And there's plenty to see nearby. The farm is set within the Euganean Hills Natural Park, established in 1989 on an area of great geo-morphological interest. There are woodlands, tracks to cover on foot or by bicycle, mediaeval forts, ancient villages, Venetian Villas, historical gardens, monasteries, wineries, golf courses and even thermal spas.
There are quiet little roads and tracks, and mediaeval towns such as Arquà Petrarca, Monselice, Este and Montagnana. Nearby must-sees include the Benedictine Abbey at Praglia and the gorgeous gardens of Villa Barbarigo at Valsanzibio. Padua, with the Basilica of St Anthony, the world famous Scrovegni Chapel and the Eremitani Church, the town of Giotto and Donatello, is only 30 km away. The centre of Venice is easily reached from the railway station of Monselice. And Verona, with its Arena and monuments, is worth a visit in any season. Golf lovers must check out the nearby the courses of Valsanzibio, Montecchia and Frassanelle. And there are street antique markets in the nearby towns.
About 40 km away from these holiday rentals in Italy is Vicenza, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and famous for the Olympic Theatre, the town palaces and the country houses designed by Palladio. And there is Treviso, a medieval town rich in rivers and watermills within its centro storico. Each is reachable for a daily visit. Verona is 85 km away by motorway (its Roman Arena hosts opera during the summer), and not far from Verona is Garda Lake.
As well as the main cities, it is also worth visiting the little towns: the medieval walled towns of Castelfranco Veneto and Cittadella; Bassano with its famous wooden bridge; Asolo with the Canova Temple; the impressive Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta, towards the north; the walled towns of Este and Montagnana; the Monselice citadel; the charming Arquà Petrarca, the Poet's village; the 17th century park of Villa Barbarigo in Valsanzibio, towards the south. All these places are within 30km of these villa apartments between Padua and Venice.
If you want to spend a day at the seaside there is Sottomarina, with the nearby fishermen's town of Chioggia, half an hour away by car, and Jesolo, about an hour.
Getting here is easy. Monselice rail station is 3km away, Rovigo station 29km and Padua station 30km. Venice Marco Polo airport is 60km, Treviso airport 85km, Bologna airport 95km and Verona airport 120km. You are well located for the A4 motorway, either from Venice or from Milan and the Brenner Pass.
